burnt to the core but not broken

did you ever wish you could be somebody else? because i was, once.

i spent three months rehearsing my lines, and then i stepped onto an airplane, watched them cut the ice from the wings, and flew two thousand miles into the arms of an existence that wasn't mine.

the river was rising and it was too warm for the day after christmas, but for a week we drove, desperately looking for a place where our lives could cross. we combed every edge, every corner and curve, feeling for the pieces that would fit together.

and after we failed, we clumsily tried to disappear into the black and white fog over the water.
